The National Zoonoses and Food Hygiene Research Centre has the following specific functions

  1. Conduct and promote research in priority areas of zoonoses and food safety.

  2. Advise His Majesty's Government of Nepal (HMG/N) on formulation of technology transfer policy and its implementation. Technical advisor for legislative issues such as the Meat Inspection Act.

  3. Conduct research programmes on zoonotic diseases in collaboration with national and international organizations.

  4. Develop and disseminate zoonotic disease information

  5. Organize seminars and workshops

  6. Write articles for scientific journals and attend international and national conferences on zoonotic diseases.

  7. Publish newsletters and pamphlets in Nepali and English for local and international distribution.

  8. Mobilize internal and external resources for Health System Research (HRS) for the development of Veterinary Public Health.

  9. Enhance public awareness towards the importance of zoonotic disease.

  10. Awareness programme for prevention and protection of animals against cruelty.
